Rob van der Schoor: Walking on the Waters

January 30 February 29, 2004 Reception Friday, January 30, 7 - 11 PM

Amsterdam artist Rob van der Schoor opens his first show in Texas with a series of watercolors created after traveling in Southeast Asia during the summer of 2002. Juxtaposing a western protestant background with the eastern influence absorbed during his trip, Robıs Walking on the Waters, offers images that veer from tender poetry toward dark humor. A skillful watercolorist, he had until recently abandoned the medium since the eighties when an entire body of work and all his supplies were stolen during a painting trip to Rome. His light touch with the medium and his playful mind combine to coax new meanings from ancient traditions. Funding for Robıs travel to Texas has been generously provided by the Consulate General of The Netherlands in New York. Sala Diaz is open First Fridays at 9 PM and by appointment. Stieren Street intersects South St. Maryıs just a few blocks south of South Alamo. Turn right on Stieren when you get next to Handy Andy grocery store, then look for us in the third house on the right.
